On April 19th, 2024, the U.S. Federal Government finalized to the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) intended to accelerate sustainable purchasing “to the maximum extent practicable.”
The FAR, which applies to all procurement for the federal government, now directs agencies to buy products which meet eco-labels in the EPA’s Recommendations of Specifications, Standards and Ecolabels for Federal Purchasing, specifically the October 2023 version.
GEC commends the U.S. Federal Government’s commitment towards sustainable, net-zero procurement and the U.S. EPA’s efforts to identify credible eco-labels to enable these goals. As stewards of EPEAT, the sole private eco-label for electronics in the EPA’s Recommendations, GEC is committed to building on the $2B+ in annual taxpayer savings that EPEAT has driven each year.
With the addition of EPEAT Climate+ to accelerate climate change mitigation, GEC’s impact supporting committed purchasers such as the U.S. Government knows no bounds.
