The Global Electronics Council (GEC) today released the updated Sustainable Use of Resources Criteria (or Circularity) and Reduction of Chemicals of Concern Criteria for its EPEAT ecolabel. These criteria will apply to ICT product categories and will be activated on November 1, 2025, when products meeting the updated criteria will begin to appear on the EPEAT Registry. The final implementation plan for all updated criteria by sustainability impact area is available here.
GEC thanks members of the Technical Committee and other stakeholders – representing manufacturers, the supply chain, government policy, civil society and purchasers – for bringing their time and expertise to create these ambitious sustainability performance criteria.
The accompanying Conformity Requirements and Guidance Documents for the Required Chemicals Criteria are now available to Participating Manufacturers and Conformity Assessment Bodies (CABs) under the Resources section using their EPEAT Registry accounts. Documents for the Required Sustainable Use of Resources Criteria will be available in the coming weeks. GEC will notify Participating Manufacturers and CABs when these Documents are available.
Please contact EPEAT@gec.org with any questions or to learn more about the criteria and their implementation in EPEAT.
